YRAP youth members are aged 15-24 inclusive, and can choose to take on a variety of roles. The most common roles that YRAP members take on are meeting as a group with a young person to come up with consequences for criminal activity or to create a plan for long-term stability, or to support the follow through of a long-term plan as a peer mentor.  Mentorship in particular is a fundamental part of supporting the young person's success, and YRAP is always on the lookout for good mentors.

In order to be a youth organization that is able to have an active role in complex legal and child-welfare systems, YRAP also has experienced adult advisors who are able to give advice to both at panels and in other areas. An adult advisor is simply an individual who is over the age of 25 and who has experience or qualifications in an area in which YRAP is involved. Relevant experience could be to do with law or the courts, the child welfare system, mediation, restorative justice, youth issues, and more.

The sign up process looks like this: When you contact us have an application form filled out to give or send to us via email.  We can then set up a time to meet and go over explanations.  During our meeting if you are still interested in volunteering you must have two forms of government ID (no SIN cards) with a photo on at least one of them. (Drivers licence, passport, Alberta health card, birth certificate, etc) in order to complete our security checks.  If you are from outside the Edmonton area such as Sherwood park or St. Albert, you will need a criminal record check from the RCMP or police in your hometown.   From then on you can interact with all YRAP activities pending training that we supply.

Volunteering with YRAP is an excellent way to get unique hands-on experience in a variety of areas.  Volunteers receive training through YRAP and are often able to take training through other agencies, or to attend relevant conferences and workshops.  They are part of a tight community of like-minded people who are working together to see a positive change in their community.
