Educational Programs

YRAP is also involved in providing programs which will lead to greater public awareness on a number of fronts including:

  • Significant Social Issues (racism, substance abuse, homelessness, prostitution, etc.)
  • Restorative Justice
  • Basic Human Rights
  • Systemic Issues and rights, within the Criminal Justice, Child Welfare, Education and Employment Systems

We believe that it is a recurring need in society to educate youth as to their rights and responsibilities concerning decisions which affect their lives, and as a result access fair and equal treatment within the above systems. All too often young people, particularly youth at risk, do not have the skills or knowledge to advocate for themselves, and may become lost in the system. In this spirit, it is one of the primary goals of YRAP to empower them with the knowledge they need to accomplish this, through educational initiatives. YRAP is available for seminars and presentations on request, and would be happy to provide our services to any group interested in the program or the issues outlined above. YRAP is also involved in the production of the world’s only young offender program on radio, “Youth Menace”. Feel free to contact us with inquiries.

Court-Worker Program
YRAP Volunteers attend Docket Court on weekday mornings to ensure that potential and current clients have access to their services. They provide support and information to young people and act as an advocate for them. YRAP Court Workers are expected to represent the organization if they have files and reports being spoken to in Court. To volunteer as a Courtworker, please contact Jessica Duhn at yrap@ycdo.ca.
